February 19 marks the 552nd anniversary of the birth of the eminent scientist Nicolaus Copernicus – astronomer, economist, mathematician, physician, lawyer, clergyman, creator of the heliocentric theory. His birthday is also celebrated as Polish Science Day.
The Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, established on the 550th anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus’ birth, cultivates the memory of the great scholar by conducting education and research activity in Copernican disciplines.
Nicolaus Copernicus became famous as the creator of the heliocentric theory, which revolutionized science and changed our perception of the universe. He was not only an astronomer, but also a mathematician, physician, lawyer, economist, cartographer and clergyman. His work “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium” became the foundation of modern astronomy.
As part of this year’s celebration of Nicolaus Copernicus’ birthday, as well as the Polish Science Day, celebrated every year on February 19, we encourage you to watch the Copernican Lectures on the life and work of Nicolaus Copernicus, available on SGMK website.
