On February 10, 2025, the Military Medical Institute – National Research Institute (WIM-PIB) entered into a landmark agreement with six leading medical and academic institutions in Poland. The goal of this cooperation is to establish the Polish Group for Robotic Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Telemedicine, which aims to integrate modern technologies into clinical practice and develop innovative treatment methods.
In addition to WIM-PIB, signatories to the agreement include:
- Świętokrzyskie Oncology Center
- University Clinical Hospital No. 4 in Lublin
- University Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lublin
- University Children’s Hospital in Lublin
- University of Warsaw
- Medical University of Lublin
This interdisciplinary coalition combines clinical experience with scientific background, creating a solid foundation for future innovations in Polish medicine.

Aims and Objectives of the New Consortium
The main objective of establishing the Polish Group for Robotic Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Telemedicine is to promote and implement modern technologies in the Polish healthcare system.
The following activities are planned as part of the cooperation:
Creation of a Registry of Robotic Procedures, a central database collecting anonymized clinical, histopathological and surgical information on robotic operations.
Conducting joint scientific research: analyzing the effectiveness of robotic surgery and the effectiveness of artificial intelligence tools in treatment, with a special focus on oncological diseases.
Organization of educational programs: training, workshops and internships to improve the skills of medical personnel in robotics and artificial intelligence.
Seeking funding sources: actively seeking external funding for research and development projects and participation in international scientific initiatives.
During the signing ceremony, the director of the WIM-PIB, Prof. Gen. Grzegorz Gielerak, stressed that one of the first tasks of the consortium will be the creation of a central registry of robotic surgery procedures. It will enable monitoring the number of surgeries performed, as well as analyzing possible adverse events and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment with this technique.
Prof. Karol Rawicz-Pruszyński of the Medical University of Lublin pointed out the need for establishing a national registry of robotic surgery, which met with the approval of experts.
Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Prof. Maria Mrówczyńska, who was also present at the meeting, expressed hope that patients would be able to benefit from modern technology, and that the consortium’s ambitious goals would be realized.
Importance of the Initiative for Polish Medicine
The formation of the Polish Group for Robotic Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Telemedicine is an important step toward modernizing the Polish healthcare system. The integration of advanced technologies into clinical practice can help improve the quality of treatment, increase the precision of procedures and shorten patients’ recovery times. In addition, scientific and educational cooperation between the country’s leading medical and academic centers provides a solid foundation for the further development of innovative therapeutics.
Thanks to this initiative, Poland has the opportunity to become a leader in the field of robotic surgery and the application of artificial intelligence in medicine on the international stage.
