he first day of the international conference “Small nuclear reactors as a catalyst for change”, dedicated to modern nuclear technologies and their role in the energy transition, took place in Warsaw on January 15, 2025. The Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School served as a substantive partner of the event, organized by the Association of the Institute of National Economy.
The first day of the conference was inaugurated by SGMK Rector, Prof. Gertruda Uścińska.
During the opening session and subsequent speeches on the first day, participants had the opportunity to listen to lectures given by:
Prof. Keung Koo Kim of the Korea Institute of Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS),
Pawel Turowski, a security expert,
Albert Borowiecki of the Institute for Contemporary China Studies.
The debate “Lessons from abroad – how Poland can take advantage of the global experience of energy development” brought together distinguished speakers, including Agnieszka Korgul, Ph.D. (Prof. UW), Jacek Reginia-Zacharski, Ph.D, (Prof. UŁ), Pawel Turowski, and Karol Venus, Vice President of the Responsible Energy Transformation Association. The discussion focused on best practices in SMR implementation and their adaptation to Polish realities.
Other speakers on the day included:
Dr. Agnieszka Boettcher of the National Center for Nuclear Research,
Prof. Yochanan Shachmurove of the City College and Graduate Center at the City University of New York,
Prof. Fabrizio Giulimondi of SGMK.
The day ended with a networking session, during which participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences with representatives of the nuclear industry and academia.
