The second edition of the debates on the most important medical achievements of the 20th and 21st centuries was held on April 24 at the SGMK College of Medical Sciences.
During the event, SGMK doctoral students presented the history of medical achievements of the 20th and 21st centuries from various branches of medicine. The debates were an excellent opportunity for scientific reflection.
During the debates, participants presented profiles of outstanding scientists whose discoveries were fundamental to modern medicine. Among the topics discussed were the discovery of insulin by Frederick Banting, in vitro fertilization developed by Robert Edwards, the introduction of hormone therapy in the treatment of prostate cancer by Charles Huggins, and the development of cardiac catheterization through the work of Forssmann, Cournand and Richards.
There were also topics related to anaphylaxis, the discovery of blood groups, ECG and serum therapy against diphtheria. Each presentation introduced not only the scientific background of a particular achievement, but also its impact on modern clinical practice.
The meeting ended with a Q&A session and a discussion, during which participants were able to exchange opinions and deepen their knowledge of the debated issues.
The debate was not only an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience and academic reflection, but also an inspiration for future doctors and researchers.
The “History of Medical Achievements of the 20th and 21st Centuries” debates, organized by the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, brought together students, faculty and history of medicine enthusiasts.
