On May 21, the Jakob Raciborski Intergenerational Educational Center in Mokrelipie hosted a SGMK workshop “Mental health crisis among youth: How we can reverse the disturbing trends together?”.
The event was organized by the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, as part of the ongoing nationwide project “Suicidology – state of knowledge analysis and educational campaign”, funded by the Minister of Science. The project aims to diagnose suicidological phenomena among young people, as well as build a support network and raise public awareness of the mental condition of the younger generation.
The goal of the workshop was to provide knowledge about the challenges faced by young people (loneliness, social pressure, school stress, the impact of digital media), but also to create a safe space to talk, ask questions, and share experiences.
The meeting brought together representatives of local authorities, educators, specialists and residents of the region to discuss one of the most serious social problems of modern times – the growing mental crisis among young people. The workshop was attended by, among others: Edward Polak – Head of Radecznica Borough, Zamojskie County Governor Stanislaw Grześko, Sławomir Kalita – Director of the Communal Center for Culture, Sports and Tourism in Radecznica.
Organized by SGMK, the workshop in Mokrelipie was a response to the real needs of the local community – teachers, parents, education staff and young people – who are increasingly confronted with difficult problems: depression, withdrawal, loneliness, self-aggression or suicidal thoughts in teenagers.
The meeting focused on, among other things, the most common causes of mental crises among adolescents and warning signs that may indicate a worsening mental health problem. Participants also discussed ways to effectively support young people at home, at school and in the community, as well as practical methods of talking to young people in order to build trust.
The workshop was practical in nature – participants were able to share their experiences, ask questions, and, above all, learn how to react and where to seek help.
