Inauguration of the 2025/2026 Academic Year at Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School

On October 30, 2025, the ceremonial inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year at the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School in Warsaw took place.

The ceremony was attended by the university authorities: the Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, Prof. Gertruda Uścińska, the Chancellor of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, Wojciech Kondrat, college deans – Prof. Maria Leżańska, Prof. Fabrizio Giulimondi, Prof. Mikołaj Handshke, Prof. Mirosław Lenart, and Prof. Jakub Morze – as well as representatives of the academic community, research, teaching, and administrative staff, students, and doctoral students.

Prof. Gertruda Uścińska, Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, emphasized in her inaugural speech the importance of science and the academic community based on values, dialogue, and responsibility.

Her speech was followed by the ceremonial matriculation of doctoral students, symbolically marking the beginning of their academic journey at the SGMK Doctoral School. The newly admitted doctoral students took an oath of allegiance to academic ideals, and the matriculation ceremony ended with a group photo.

Her Magnificence Rector Prof. Gertruda Uścińska officially opened the 2025/2026 academic year by reciting the traditional formula:

“I solemnly open the 2025/2026 academic year at the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School. Quod bonum, felix, faustum, fortunatumque sit.”

The first lecture of the new academic year was given by Prof. Mirosław Lenart. The inaugural lecture was entitled “Doctae et docti sicut in firmamento stellae fulgent. On the need for scholars and universities.” The lecture focused on the role and importance of the academic community in the modern world, emphasizing the mission of universities in shaping a new generation of scholars, as well as the importance of universities as places of creative work, the search for truth, and the development of a community of intellectuals. He also referred to the university’s motto, “Docti sicut in firmamento stellae fulgent,” or “Scholars shine like stars in the sky,” referring to the need to build an environment conducive to the development of science and academic values.

The event culminated in a joint singing of the Gaudeamus Igitur song.

The community of Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School extends its warmest wishes to all students, doctoral students, lecturers, and employees for a fruitful, inspiring, and academically successful 2025/2026 academic year.
