October Supermoon – the Blood Moon is coming

The October supermoon is coming. This will be the biggest full moon of the year, during which the Moon will shine the brightest.

On Thursday, October 17, the sky will witness the so-called supermoon. This will be an exceptional full moon – the largest and also the brightest this year. Our satellite will be at perigee, the point of its orbit closest to Earth.

The October Full Moon is called the Full Hunter’s Moon or Blood Moon.

Throughout the year, full moons have a variety of names, reflecting the changing seasons and natural cycles. Here is a list of all the full moons in 2024:

January – January 25 – Wolf Moon

February – February 24 – Snow Moon

March – March 25 – Worm Moon

April – April 24 – Pink Moon

May – May 23 – Flower Moon

June – June 22 – Strawberry Moon

July – July 21 – Buck Moon

August – August 19 – Grain Moon/Sturgeon Moon

September – September 18 – Harvest Moon/Corn Moon

October – October 17 – Blood Moon/Hunter’s Moon

November – November 15 – Beaver Moon

December – December 15 – Cold Moon
