The Center for Technology and Computational Sciences (CETINO) has officially opened on the Katowice campus of the Silesian University of Technology. CETINO is a modern research and development hub, whose goal is to support the digital and industrial transformation of Silesia and the development of advanced technologies and innovative solutions.
The newly opened center is an investment worth nearly PLN 127 million, most of which – over PLN 100 million – comes from the Just Transition Fund. It is one of the largest projects of its kind in the region and an important step towards strengthening Poland’s scientific and technological potential.
CETINO was established with the aim of integrating scientific knowledge, advanced computing infrastructure, and expert competence to implement projects of key importance for the economy, public health, and the environment. The center will develop digital technologies, artificial intelligence, data analysis, complex systems modeling, and the design of materials and structures of strategic importance. One of its goals is also to support the energy, digital, and urban transformation of Upper Silesia.
The new scientific hub will not only provide computing power, but also serve as an advisory and implementation body for public institutions, businesses, and the healthcare sector. It will play an important role in, among other things, developing personalized cancer therapies, designing smart cities, optimizing energy networks, and developing innovative materials using local raw materials.
CETINO’s infrastructure is on par with other national supercomputing centers, and its advantage will also be access to global technological resources thanks to planned international partnerships. The Silesian University of Technology intends to work closely with leading technology companies from different continents, which will further increase the center’s research and implementation capabilities.
