Rector of SGMK attends the celebration of the National Day of the Third of May

Prof. Gertruda Uścińska, Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, took part in the official celebrations of the National Day of the Third of May.

The celebrations were held at Castle Square in Warsaw, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Poland, representatives of state authorities, the Sejm and the Senate and the command staff of the Polish Army.

Before noon, a Mass for the Homeland was held at the Archcathedral Basilica of the Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. Present were delegations of uniformed services: Polish Army, Police, Fire Department, as well as veterans, scouts and residents of the capital.

“This is a day of Polish pride, great pride in our historical achievements, in our great state and our wonderful statehood of more than a thousand years. Great pride in what Poles can and have been able to do, ” President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda stressed during the ceremony at Castle Square in Warsaw.

In the evening, a commemorative illumination was displayed on the facade of the Presidential Palace.

234 years ago, on May 3, 1791, the Four-Year Sejm adopted a government law that went down in history as the May 3rd Constitution. It was the world’s second and Europe’s first law regulating the organization of state authorities, as well as the rights and duties of citizens. The anniversary of the adoption of the May 3rd Constitution is a holiday established in 1919. During the communist period, its public celebration was forbidden; it was restored as a national holiday in 1990.
