A seminar on the role of the G20 as an instrument of influence for nations within the global governance system was held at the Belvedere Palace. The event was organized in cooperation with the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School and brought together representatives from the academic community and the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.
The meeting was opened by Marcin Przydacz, Secretary of State and Head of the Office of International Policy at the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland, who emphasized the importance of deeper reflection on Poland’s place in global cooperation frameworks such as the G20.
The introductory lecture was delivered by Prof. Piotr Ostaszewski, Ph.D., who served as Poland’s Ambassador to South Korea from 2017 to 2024. He discussed the origins of the G20 and the evolution of its role in the international economic and political system. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Tomasz Wicha.
Seminar participants debated whether the G20 constitutes a real instrument of influence for states or rather a forum that reacts to global crises. Possible options for Poland’s involvement in this format were also analyzed, discussing potential benefits, political costs, and associated risks.
The seminar was part of a broader dialogue led by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister on the directions of Polish foreign policy and our country’s role in shaping the global order. Representatives from various sectors—including business leaders, the academic community, and experts from think tanks—are participating in these discussions.
