Prof. Gertruda Uścińska, Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, took part in the Central and Eastern European Security Forum, held on June 16-17 in Warsaw. The SGMK Rector moderated a panel entitled “Cyber threats and hybrid threats – how to counter them?”.
The panel led by Prof. Gertruda Uścińska was devoted to the dynamically changing landscape of threats – from cyberattacks and information warfare, through economic pressure, to sabotage. Discussion participants emphasized that the boundaries between military and non-military activities are becoming increasingly blurred, which requires a new approach to the protection of both state institutions and societies.
The panel was attended by Prof. Andrzej Zybertowicz, Bartłomiej Pejo, Member of the Polish Parliament, Peter Sund, Managing Director of the Finnish Information Security Cluster, Paweł Doniec, Head of the Current Cyberspace Security Management Department, and Liliana Grosaru-Filip, Chair of the Political Research Group from Romania.
The participants agreed that countering hybrid threats requires a coherent approach: integration of security systems, development of defense technologies, and active citizen engagement. Education, both at the social and expert levels, and international coordination of activities are also key.
The panel provided many valuable conclusions and emphasized the need to further develop the resilience of states and institutions to increasing challenges happening outside the traditional battlefield.
The Central and Eastern European Security Forum is a key event dedicated to current and future security challenges in our dynamically changing region.
The conference provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience for representatives of governments, international organizations, academia, and the private sector from Europe and the US. It focuses on, among other things, geopolitical, cybersecurity, and social issues that are crucial to the security of states and citizens.
The forum is organized by the Institute for Eastern Studies (organizer of the Economic Forum in Karpacz) in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense and the University of Warsaw.
