– “The law is not keeping pace with reality, even though various regulations on cybersecurity have been created. Therefore, we should also strive to create appropriate regulations in the field of suicidology,” said Prof. Gertruda Uścińska, Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School, summarizing the suicidology panel that took place on September 2, 2025, during the 34th Economic Forum in Karpacz. SGMK was an institutional partner of this year’s edition of the Forum.
Under the patronage of SGMK, a debate was organized entitled “Between drama and statistics – an interdisciplinary analysis of the state of (un)knowledge about suicide among young people.” The panel brought together experts from various fields who discussed the challenges of suicide prevention, gaps in public awareness, and the need to introduce systemic solutions to support the mental health of young people.

SGMK suicide report – comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon
During the panel, the results of the research and educational project “Suicidology – state of knowledge analysis and educational campaign” carried out by the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School were presented.
The report includes:
- an in-depth sociological analysis of suicidal behavior among young people,
- a review of scientific literature, health reports, and statistics,
- an assessment of the activities of institutions and organizations,
- including health services, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations,
- an analysis of available local programs and initiatives, along with an assessment of their effectiveness,
- the identification of best practices that can be implemented as part of prevention strategies.
The result is a solid knowledge base that will be used to develop effective suicide prevention methods and support further educational activities. The database will also serve as the basis for publications and knowledge sources developed as part of the specialist knowledge portal suicydologia.sgmk.edu.pl.
