Volonaut Airbike: Polish vision of personal flight of the future

Polish engineer Tomasz Patan, co-founder of Jetson and Volonaut, unveiled an innovative air vehicle – the Volonaut Airbike. Resembling machines from sci-fi movies, this one-person hoverbike represents the next step in the development of personal air transportation.

A new concept in personal flight

The Volonaut Airbike is a compact jet-powered air vehicle designed to carry one person. Thanks to an advanced stabilization system aided by an on-board computer, control of the machine is intuitive and safe. The vehicle reaches speeds of up to 200 km/h, offering the pilot a panoramic view and a sense of direct contact with the environment.

The advanced technology and design

Airbike is distinguished by the absence of spinning propellers, allowing it to move in confined spaces. It is about seven times lighter than a traditional motorcycle. This is achieved by using carbon fiber materials and 3D printing technology. The minimalist design not only reduces weight but also increases the vehicle’s energy efficiency.

Inspirations and previous projects

Prior to creating the Airbike, Tomasz Patan co-created the Jetson ONE, an electric, one-person VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) air vehicle. Equipped with eight electric motors and an aluminum frame, Jetson ONE allows for a 20-minute flight at speeds of up to 102 km/h. By meeting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements for ultralight vehicles, it can be flown in the US without a pilot’s license. The vehicle is equipped with safety systems such as automatic landing, a ballistic parachute, and LiDAR sensors for obstacle avoidance. The Jetson ONE has met with great interest – the first production runs have been sold out, and the company has collected orders for 500 units, which translates into revenue of $60 million.

The future of personal air transportation

Volonaut Airbike represents the next stage in the development of personal air transportation. Its compact design, advanced control systems and lack of need for a pilot’s license (if the relevant regulations are met) could help popularize this type of vehicle. Although the Airbike is currently in the prototype stage, its presentation has generated a lot of interest and may influence future directions of urban mobility
